7 Tips To Help Improve Your Mind & Body During The 2020 Isolation
As we go into our second month of isolation it’s important to acknowledge that everyone in the household has needs, some of which just aren’t being met during this situation. Let’s look at some of the most important:
Perspective: Let’s be honest, if you watch the news you know it’s bad, really bad out there. But watching focuses your mind on this very ugly situation to the exclusion of all the good things in the world. Turn off the news, pet your cat, and remember you are loved.
Exercise: This is so vitally important to your mental and emotional health that you simply MUST find a way to get some exercise. YouTube is great! I love “Yoga with Adrianne.” Another one I like is Classical Stretch, which is not free but very good. You can stream it for $15 a month: https://essentrics.com/classical-stretch/.
Space: This is triple true for people who work at home. If you have to move furniture around, make the garage a living space, or put up a tent in the back yard, make that happen.
Connection outside the home: If you haven’t already it’s time to figure out how to use Zoom or other virtual connection programs to have virtual coffee dates with your friends.
Normalcy: I get this one is hard but find a way to do something somewhat ordinary every day. Even if it’s just going out to get coffee while wearing your mask.
Plans for the future: As a family, start planning that vacation you will take later. Your favorite places will still be there when this is over and talking about what you will do there makes it real. Plus, it’s fun.
Privacy: If your spouse tells you they are going to fill up the gas tank of a car that’s been sitting in the driveway for three weeks, don’t offer to go with them!! They need 10 minutes alone, everyone does sometimes. Instead tell them what flavor Fritos you want them to grab while they are out and wish them well. I recommend honey barbeque but don’t let me influence you.
We are all in this together and this will eventually end. In the meantime, do your very best to find a way to keep everyone as emotionally and physically healthy as possible and know that you are loved.
Much love and virtual hugs being sent your way.
